The
West Bend School District is currently in the planning stage of
creating its first charter school - Pathways. It has been determined,
through extensive discussion with our school board, staff,
leadership, business and community leaders, that an innovative
educational model is needed if we are to see all students be prepared
for college readiness and career success.
The basic philosophy
of Pathways is to give students a broad range of experiences within a
variety of careers, utilizing the national career cluster model while
integrating the common core standards and employability skills.
Pathways will be an inter-disciplinary learning environment, guided
by a Project Based Learning approach.
The
goal of Pathways is to honor and utilize current WBSD programming and
relationships with community partners and local businesses while
expanding on student options to help them prepare for college and
career success. All students graduating from Pathways will leave with
a career and post-secondary education plan to compete in a global
economy.
Currently,
the design team and governance board is in the process of writing
curriculum, planning space and technology needs, planning for
enrollment, working on graduation requirements and working on the
charter school contract. Enrollment for Pathways will coincide with
the State of Wisconsin open enrollment period. Information on the
enrollment process will be posted on the website under the enrollment
tab on the left side of the homepage as that information becomes
available.
